Auto accidents and injuries

It is rare for anyone to go through life without being involved in auto accident. In many cases, an injury is involved and must be properly diagnosed and treated as soon as possible to avoid future problems.
The injuries from auto accidents that are the most difficult to identify are those that are not physically apparent. In other words, a wound, bruise or fracture is usually easy to notice and treat, but internal injuries, particularly soft tissue injuries and strains, are often overlooked. It’s not until much later that the patient experiences pain from such injuries. If the injury is not properly treated or repaired, it can lead to a chronic pain condition.
It’s important to know that injuries can occur even in very minor collisions at low speeds. In fact, if anything, there are cases where even though none of the vehicles involved showed damage, one or more of the drivers or passengers sustained a serious injury that required a skilled and effective diagnosis and treatment.
Whiplash
Even in very minor impacts, whiplash can occur and it’s the number one complaint of those who are injured in auto accidents. The term is very descriptive of course, as the injury happens when a person’s head is suddenly snapped forward, then backward. The symptoms are many, including stiffness, headaches, neck pain, blurred visions and tingling in the arms and shoulders.
Ironically, it’s when the patient’s symptoms begin to disappear that they need the most care as whiplash can lead to damage in and around the neck and shoulders. Without a proper examination during the time the patient’s symptoms are still apparent, long-term and sometimes debilitating damage can occur.
Chiropractic care for auto accidents
Chiropractic care is often one of the best and most effective treatments for injuries (particularly whiplash) sustained in an automobile accident. A careful and thorough examination is the first step in not only relieving the patient’s pain and discomfort, but correcting present problems and helping the patient avoid any future complications.
